The Athena Women’s Chorus is seeking a talented and passionate Assistant Music Director to lead a new 40-person mixed-voice chorale that will represent the historic Los Angeles Athletic Club at external events. See below for more about the club and our chorus.

Maximum 40 person SATB Chorus
Members are existing members of the Athenas Womens Chorus and the Apollos Mens Chorus.
This group’s main focus is to perform externally and internally at the Club beyond the normal Summer and Winter Concerts the Women’s Chorus and Men’s Chorus traditionally perform. Configurations are flexible (full chorale to a smaller ensemble).
Up to 10 songs each season (Spring and Fall).
Under the direction of the Artistic Director, prepares and conducts the weekly Chorale rehearsals early Sept to early December and early February to early June, Tuesday evenings 8:15 - 9:15 pm
Alongside Chorale and Club leadership, identifies and develops external and internal performance opportunities, including pricing and logistics
Recruits Athena and Apollo singers as needed for the Chorale
Engages and advises on Chorale governance issues
Serves ex officio on the Chorale Board
Serves as cover conductor for Athena Chorus and Apollo Chorus Artistic Directors if they are absent, as needed
Weekly one-hour rehearsals with Chorale (12-16 per season).
5-10 performances estimated annually, coordinated with Artistic Director
Up to 4 hours weekly as rehearsal cover conductor for the Athenas or the Apollos
Additional time for recruiting, planning, and music education for Chorale members
Current student or Bachelor’s degree in Music, Choral Conducting, or related field
Experience directing choral groups, preferably volunteer choirs, and working with singers of varying skill levels
Patience and enthusiasm for music education
Piano skills desirable, but not essential (an accompanist will be provided)
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Collaborative, community-oriented spirit
Complimentary single membership to the Los Angeles Athletic Club, waiving the $800 initiation fee and monthly dues of $225
Free parking at LAAC structure valued at $200/month
Option to be a complimentary member of the Athena Women's Chorus or Apollo Men's Chorus
Under the direction of the Artistic Director and Assistant Director, provides piano or keyboard accompaniment for weekly Chorale rehearsals early September to early December and early February to early June, Tuesday evenings 8:15 - 9:15 pm
Provides accompaniment for external or internal Chorale performances and special events
Supports singers' learning of vocal parts, collaborating with the conductor and singers to enhance the ensemble's accuracy and expression
Assists in finding additional collaborative instrumentalists as needed.
Serves as a cover Collaborative Pianist for the Athena Chorus and the Apollo Chorus Collaborative Pianists if they are absent, as needed
Weekly one-hour rehearsal with Chorale (12-16 per season
